Teff Field Day August 1, 2008 At the field sites farmers will share their experiences with growing teff in the first year of a Natural Resources Conservation Service Conservation Innovation Grant. Five area farmers currently have nearly 50 acres in production of teff. In association with NCR-SARE. Tomato, Flower, and Heb Enterprises August 2, 2008 Practical Farmers of Iowa will host a two-part event on Saturday, August 2. The field day will begin at 4 p.m. at the home of Eric and Ann Franzenburg. At 6:30, the event will move to the Tara Hills Country Club for a gourmet fundraiser dinner by Ben Halperin, executive chef and owner of the acclaimed Augusta restaurant. 2008 will be the third year of tomato production on the farm, and the first year for flower production. The Franzenburgs constructed three new high tunnels on the farm this year to accommodate their new enterprises. Sponsored in part by NCR-SARE. Grant Writing Workshop August 28, 2008, 6 p.m. llinois and Indiana producers and agriculture professionals can find out how to write successful grant proposals and learn more about the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NCR-SARE) Farmer Rancher Grant Program at a video workshop. The workshop will include information to help farmers compete for grants from theNCR-SARE Farmer Rancher Grant Program. Producers interested in research, demonstrations or educating others about profitable, environmentally sound, socially responsible agricultural are encouraged to attend. The workshop is co-sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension and Purdue Extension. The two-hour program will begin at 6:00 p.m. CST.
