2009 Report Summary
The 2009 Report was submitted by Tom Jordan, outgoing Indiana State Coordinator. Indiana reported SARE had program promotion activities at more than five conferences and workshops, and articles in more than twenty-nine educator publications. Partners in program development included Purdue University, University of Illinois, Indiana State Department of Ag and the Indiana Soybean Association. Primary activities included eight workshops, a web-based curricula session, five mini-grants ($4,711) and 10 travel scholarships ($4,668). Participants in the program reported: 41 answered client questions, ten developed new contacts, 7 incorporated into programming, 20 delivered new programming, 15 used the PDP information in newsletters or other media outlets and 8 of those attending a mini-grant workshop developed curriculum.
2010 Plan of Work Summary
In November, 2009, Roy Ballard became the new Indiana Sustainable Agriculture Coordinator. . The 2010 Indiana professional development program includes the Entrepreneurial Initiative, with the tri-state New Ag Network (MI, IL, IN) developing materials and curriculum for fifty-one educators to develop programming and work with farmers/clients. Other activities in the initiative are “Scaling Up Local Food Systems” regional training, workshops, adobe connect meetings and a two day farm tour. The second initiative, Purdue Living on the Land: Stewardship for Small Acreages, targets twenty-five educators to be trained. Six $1,000 mini-grants are also being offered to educators to provide professional development training.
